There are a few random things that have always just intrigued, interested or seemed fun to me that I don't think I've ever even told anyone. Kind of weird, but I was just thinking about this the other day and while I have to say that my husband is pretty good about knowing what my favorite things are, there are a few things I don't think I've ever even told him. So, what better place to put those things out there than here on my blog, right?! So, here goes. Do with this information what you will...or won't. And if you ever feel the urge to do something that will make me burst with delight, here are some great ideas. ;-)
#1 - Hand-Knitted Socks
I have always had a desire to own a pair of long, colorful hand-knitted socks. There is just a sense of whimsy to them that makes me smile. Perhaps too, it's because I have always wanted to be able to knit (I'm a crocheter) and have just never been able to figure it out. Anyway, slipping my feet into some seriously cute and fun hand-knitted socks is one of the simple pleasures I'm yet to experience.
#2 - A Tea Kettle
Just the idea of having a cute tea kettle that sits on my stove as decoration when I'm not using it and then to whistle at me when I heat water for tea...oh, bliss. I adore this yellow color, since it would go perfectly in my kitchen. It's just so fun! When I read in books about them "putting the kettle on" or "the tea kettle whistling", I can't help but want one for myself. Just seems so cozy. I'm into cozy.
#3 - Birkenstocks
Oh, a cute pair of Birkenstocks. Comfy, simple, easy. Picture it...Birkenstocks and a cute pair of hand-knitted socks. Be still, my heart. And if you haven't already noticed that I'm a total dork, this should confirm it. ;-)
#4 - A Lap Quilt
I would love a colorful, fun little lap quilt to use when I'm watching t.v. or reading. Something cheerful to keep me cozy that is far too "girly" for any of the boy-folks in my house to want to use. Just for me.
Now, I realize I'm sounding really old-ladyish by this point, with all of the items I'm putting. I have to tell you that that's kind of a joke around our house. I love to crochet, play bingo on the computer, cross stitch sometimes, that sort of thing. Everyone says I'm like an old lady and I tell them "I'm practicing up. I'm going to be an awesome old lady!" Seriously though, I think it's all the simple pleasures that a lot of people don't take the time to notice until they get older, that bring me joy even at this point in my life. I wouldn't want it any other way...

You are a woman after my own heart. My quirky little things match yours. (Well, except my tea kettle is red and I have an orange one for back-up when I need to shake things up a bit ...)
I leaped right in to making quilts ...very fun! My mom taught me to knit when I was 6 or 7 and now my 20-soemthing daughter does also. She also crochets! She makes those great tam-o-shanter hats ....too cool ...and she loves patchwork. I'm a mean seamstress ...just finished creating the sweetest patchwork vest for her. We both wear birks but you have me thinking now ...I need to create some of the knitted socks you've described! Maybe for Christmas ...
Oh ...and I agree ...I think you are like a little old lady ...isn't it wonderful!? :)
Oh your comment was such a lovely start to my day that has me smiling! It really is the simple things that make life so enjoyable, don't you think?! I love your comment about your backup orange tea kettle for when you want to shake things up a little. Too stinkin' cute! Just perfect. You sound absolutely wonderful! Thank you for being such a blessing to me today!
