Ouchies Review & Giveaway

Won't be long now and the kids will be out riding bikes, climbing trees, playing baseball in the yard, etc. and what does that bring? Lots and lots of scraped up knees, elbows and other body parts. Well, that's never fun, but you can make the bandages they put on them fun!


Ouchies is a company that makes some of the cutest bandages I've ever seen. Here's the story of how they came to be...

When my daughter turned five, her supply of bandages began to dwindle from all the boo-boo's that kids get, so I decided to search the aisles of drugstores for some kind of alternative – something cool, something different, something stylish. To my complete surprise, I came home empty handed; only able to offer her one of my horribly, boring beige bandages.

As I stood there in front of her medicine cabinet, I thought to myself, “Why are there no cool bandages?” I felt that change was in order, but it wasn’t until my wife (who is the true inspiration and “umph” behind these products) gave me a nudge and said, “You can do it.” From that point on, I started Ouchies – offering kids an array of adhesive bandages that allow them to show their style and personality. Since that time I have had two more kids, furthering my dedication to giving kids the chance to express themselves through bandages.

So, join me, my wife, my two daughters and son and let the world know that just because you are 5 or 8 or even 11, you can still have style after you have fallen and scraped your knee. Down with beige bandages, baby!



I love it! I was given the opportunity to choose 2 tins of bandages to review and chose the 4Boyz and Mr. Men & Little Miss 4Boyz styles. They also have designs that are for girls and unisex. I seriously love Mr. Men and Little Miss (I have magnets of them on my fridge and the books from when I was a kid), so I HAD to get those ones and then the 4Boyz ones were just cool and I knew they would be more Gavin's speed (in fact, he found a reason to use one of the flames ones pretty quick after we got them). Of course I had to keep them from wanting to use one for every little thing right at first, but they chilled out and now they are waiting in the bathroom closet for the next scratch, cut or whatever it is that comes along.



I'm all about making the not-so-fun things better in any way I can and I think that Ouchies are a great way to do that. The bandages stay stuck nicely without ripping off their skin when you take them off and they look cool. Yup, that's pretty much all I could want from a bandage, so I'm sold!

Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers NCV

I had the great opportunity to receive a copy of and review the Mom's Bible: God's Wisdom for Mothers (New Century Version) from Thomas Nelson Publishers.

This Bible is packed with great extras like introductions that present the setting for each book in the bible, a large section filled with questions that kids ask and answers for them, life lesson from biblical mothers, ways to build Godly character, advice from a Christian therapist and more.

I was so pleasantly surprised as I started looking into all the features of this Bible. It is a sturdy hardcover with detailing on every page and the layout on the pages is easy to read. The extras that are included that I mentioned above are such a great addition to the Bible and give you several things you can use to apply to your everyday life. I have never read a NCV Bible before, but I find the wording to be easy to understand without being completely different from the NIV that I am used to. There are some lined pages in the back where you can write and I am excited to fill this book with prayers for my children. I see this as being a Bible that I use for the rest of my life as I pray for my children during their childhood and in their adult life.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this Bible, but I really like all of it's features and can honestly say that I would highly recommend it to any mother. I think it would make a really great gift for a new mother or for Mother's Day.

This summer we will be making the big room switch at our house. Asher will be moving in with Riley, and Gavin will be getting his own room. Since Gavin will be getting to decorate his room with all the stuff he likes, I wanted Riley to get to change things up in his room too and to do something fun for him and Asher (besides, I am so over the sports theme and Riley couldn't care less about sports). Pretty much unlike any other wall decor for kids that I've seen!

I was lucky enough to be able to choose two of their panels for review and I chose panels with Riley and Asher's names on them to help personalize their new room they will be sharing together. They thought they were really cool and are excited about it. I was also surprised to see that the great folks over there sent me an extra panel that coordinates with their name panels. I know exactly how I'm going to position these too! The boys have bunk beds, so Riley's name panel will be up near his top bunk, then the car panel and then Asher's name panel down by his bunk in a line. It's going to be so cute that now I'm excited about decorating their new room! Just look how cute!

Spring Cleaning Week 1 - Entry Area

I am joining in a Spring Cleaning challenge over at a blog called Beautiful 2 God. Sarah has set up a great schedule to easily get your house in great shape in time for the weather to break, so that when it does, you can get outside and enjoy it instead of being stuck inside cleaning. Here are the directions for this week's area, the entry, and here is the schedule for the rest of the challenge, so check it out and join in the fun!


And here it is...my entry. It is in an especially bad state of disarray right now. We simply have too many coats, pairs of snow pants, boots, shoes, etc. to fit in the small entry closet (however, organization on my part would help tremendously) and it just makes everything look a mess. My plan is to remove the snow pants we aren't currently using, get rid of hats that are too small, gloves without a match, all that good stuff and get the closet organized. You'll notice that right now, it's so full that the door won't even stay on the track...real nice. I'd also like to get a new rug for guests to put their shoes on when they come over. The walls need to be washed, things need to be dusted, the floor needs a good hands and knees scrubbing, etc. I will actually be painting the area on week 8 (during the living/family room week) so that will make the entry look much better too, as there are scuff marks on the walls that just won't come off. I'll be sure to take another picture of it then, to show the difference. So anyway, here is my embarrassingly messy entry, but hopefully Friday the new pictures will be something I can smile about!

YooHoo & Friends ~ Review & Giveaway

We're pretty big fans of stuffed animals around here and when I saw the YooHoo & Friends critters, I had to check them out.

I was sent the YooHoo character keychains (one blue and one yellow lemur), the Lion (he roars when you push his stomach) and the Owl (he makes a magical sound when you push his stomach). Riley quickly claimed the Lion and Asher was excited about the Owl. Gavin felt like he was a little old for them (he's 11, so I guess that's to be expected). They have a lot of cute little characters to choose from and a website with games and activities as well.

Riley enjoyed the website for a couple of days, but he hasn't been on it in a little while and he said it was because he couldn't get the part where you raise the YooHoos to work right. I checked it out and couldn't get it to work well either, so I'm not exactly sure what was going on. In any case, he hasn't really shown anymore interest in being on the website, but he has still enjoyed playing with the Lion stuffed animal.



If you're looking for a cute little stuffed animal of types of animals that you don't see in stuffed animal form very often (wow, I just said "animal" way too many times in that sentence), these are a cute option. They have several different sizes, ones that make noise and keychains. The website does tell about the different animals that correspond with the stuffed animals and show where in the world they come from and things like that, so I do appreciate that educational aspect of them.

So, I'd say they are cute little critters that are appealing to the younger kids and if you're looking for cute websites for your kids to play on, they are good for that as well, so check them out.
